Fellow Chapter Members & Guests – The ‘Dog Days’ of Summer are here!. Cruise climb and mind your temps and density altitude; don’t over-lean, though, pushing your cylinder, exhaust and oil temps too high. The preliminary NTSB Report has been released on Roland ‘Rolly’ Babcock’s, recently of EAA Chapter 1099, Fredericksburg, accident on Tuesday, July 14th; while on final approach to KEZF Runway 24. It apprears there was mechanical failure; I’ll provide information on this at our meeting. Please join us this Saturday for our meeting starting at 11:00 AM; followed by an ice cream social. Our presentation will be on EAA’s Vintage Aircraft Association recent awards for: Antique, Classic and Contemporary Aircraft; including videos of 1915 OX-5 and 1916 Gnome Rotary engine run-ups at Oshkosh in 2025. [EAA1563]: EAA Chap 1563 Mtg, Sat, July 18th
Fellow Chapter Members & Guests – Summer has arrived!. I’ve recently expanded Light Sport 2.0 pilot certification training at KGVE & KOMH and am continuing tail wheel basics and refresher/ recurrency training. It is with a heavy heart that I notify you we lost EAA pilot Roland ‘Rolly’ Babcock of EAA Chapter 1099, Fredericksburg, late the morning of Tuesday, July 14th; while he was on final approach to KEZF Runway 24. The FAA/ NTSB and VSP are investigating the crash; a preliminary report is pending release in 2 to 3 weeks. I’ll provide separate information on his funeral service and interment at Quantico National Cemetery on July 30th. Please join us this Saturday for our meeting starting at 11:00 AM; followed ny an ice cream social. [EAA1563]: EAA Chap 1563 June Mtg & Work Party
Fellow Chapter Members & Guests – Summer is almost upon us!. I’ve started Light Sport 2.0 pilot certification training at KGVE & KOMH and resumed tail wheel basics and refresher/ recurrency instruction for Rolly Babcock, Fredericksburg Chapter; for fellow EAA members and others in a C-140 @ KOMH. Please join us this Saturday for our Safety Fencing setup work party in support of the Town of Gordonsville’s 4th of July fireworks on the evening of July 2nd starting at 9:00 AM; in celebration of America’s 250th Anniversary. A pancake breakfast will be the reward for those helping with the fence installation and we want to ‘beat the heat’. Pancake Breakfast will followed by our short June EAA Chapter Meeting.
